Students show the transfer of skill as they read independently and collaborate with peers. Differentiation is provided through 3-levels of texts.
In the Read Side by Side Reading Program, book clubs differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual learners.
Benefits of book clubs:
- ALL students participate, independently reading text at their instructional level.
- Students receive small group instruction and intervention catered to their needs.
- Students receive help from their peers and the teacher and gain confidence as readers.
- Students broaden their reading interests.
- Groups are flexible; students move up in level across the year.
A unique feature of the
Read Side by Side book clubs:
Students will practice the same skill each day, no matter what book they are reading! The teacher teaches a whole-class mini-lesson before dismissing students to practice the skill in their differentiated texts. Each group practices the same skill. Students read their books at the same pace so that all students finish their book on the same day. All book club lessons are fully scripted in the guide.

"I have used book clubs in my classroom previously
but they were unorganized and didn't have much individual accountability.
Now I have the tools to turn them into engaging, challenging experiences for all of my readers!"
