There are a lot of books in the program. What do you suggest?

It is important to get to know the different books before you get started with your year.

There are two categories of books that are part of the Read Side by Side Reading Program. There are professional development books, and there are the materials for teaching the program,

Professional Development books:

1-Sep-25-2023-07-11-24-4362-PM

Raising the Standards Through Chapter Books, 2nd edition, provides background knowledge about the program and walks teachers through the components of the C.I.A. model. There is an overview of what will be emphasized in each of the 4 quadrants, as well as information on how to effectively implement book clubs within the program. Professional development and training is provided using this book.

CIA Assessment and Intervention Guide_cover_2 (dragged)-3The Assessment and Intervention Guide is a resource for teachers to help them strengthen the practice of formative assessment as they teach the Read Side by Side Reading Program. These assessment pieces will help teachers monitor student motivation, place students in appropriate book clubs, and evaluate their work. In addition, we provide tools for management, record-keeping, and reporting to parents. Included in this book is also information on working with struggling students and preparing students for state-mandated tests using our program.
