New writing units create more opportunities for the integration of reading and writing.
Yes! In addition to the short writing pieces students will write during the reading block, our program also offers new longer writing units that extend writing beyond the reading time. There is a writing unit for each read-aloud unit. Students use the read-aloud text as the mentor text. They will use the research notes from the read-aloud unit when writing expository, persuasive, and argumentative writing.
Emphasis is placed on the volume of writing students will produce in a year; the more students write, the better writers they become! |
Writing units throughout the 3-6 program include a variety of modes and genres, in both narrative and expository writing types. The table below lays out the units by grade. More indepth information can be found in the Introduction to the Writing Units or on the Writing page on our website.
